Dear Online Farmstand Customer,

The big news at Ararat Farms this week is that Emilia and I welcomed our second son, Silas, into the world last Tuesday!  I am happy to report he and Emilia are very healthy - and Ray so far has been a great older brother.

But, the vegetables pause for no one, especially in this warm weather.  This week, we've got broccoli again, plus brussels sprouts on the stalk, carrots, beets, salad mix, and all kinds of other fall goodies.

Thank you!

Jed, Emilia, and Ray

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

Last week's warm weather spurred on the growth of our fall crops, and gave us a rennaisance of some of our summer crops.  This will be the last week (really) for tomatoes, eggplant, cauliflower, and others - and just the beginning for cabbage.  Add these to salad mix, baby kale mix, onions, and more, and we've got quite the lineup for you this week.

Broccoli arrives next week!

Sincerely,

Emilia, Jed, and Ray

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

We are sooo happy to see the sunlight again this week - it means we can dispenses with the winter hats for the near future at least!

This week is the zenith of the sweet bell peppers, especially the yellow bells.  They're Ray's current favorite snack in the field on harvest days.  We've also begun digging fall carrot bunches and beet bunches with excellent flavor.  The cool weather has begun to make our green kale crisper and sweeter, as well as our baby kale mix.  We've also got a great crop of yellow and red onions, garlic, cauliflower, and other tasty fall items to pick from.

Sincerely,

Jed, Emilia, and Ray

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

Brrrrr!!!!  We are hastily digging into our winter clothes box, looking for our wool hats.   So far, the frost has escaped us, though.  New this week is our cauliflower, which has put out some county-fair-winning size heads.  Also, don't miss the last week of tomatoes - their swansong is a sweet one.  We've also got carrots, bunch beets, salad mix, and much more this week.

Sincerely,

Jed, Emilia, and Ray

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

Just before the cold weather begins to nip at tender foilage, and the panicked last-minute harvest of non-hardy summer crops ensues - that's when the sweet peppers begin to show their true colors and flavors.  For the last few weeks, they've been blushing their hues (or getting "suntanned," as one marketing genius once dubbed them).  This week, the riot of red and yellow is in full swing, and the crunchy walls have turned sweet.  They're especially excellent roasted with our leeks.

Peppers not your thing?  No problem!  We've also got carrots, beets, tomatoes, fava beans, garlic, onions, and much more this week!

Sincerely,

Emilia, Jed, and Ray

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

September is a fantastic time to eat locally in the Midcoast area.  We're on the cusp between summer and fall, which means we've still got all the hot season favorites, such as tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers.  We've also got the first of the fall veggies to enjoy as well.  This week, celeriac root makes its debut, with its creamy, celery-like flavors.  We've also got salad mix, fava beans, and carrot bunches too - along with much more . . .

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

The summer harvest is in full swing here at Ararat Farms.  We're awash in eggplant, peppers, sweet hakurei turnips, tomatoes, and all sorts of other tasty vegetables.  We're picking and weeding, washing and packing, slicing and roasting, canning and feasting, and doing our best to keep up with the tide.

Sincerely,

Dear Online Farmstand Customer,

After a brief hiatus due to the July heat, our salad mix is back in action, along with our baby kale.  Add these to some newcomers, like cucumbers, and green bell peppers, and we've got a great lineup for you this week.

Dear Online Farmstand Shopper,

Crops and weeds and are growing furiously, and it's all we can do to try and keep on top of both.  We've been digging new potatoes from the garden this week, and they are delicious!  Sweeter, moister, and crisper than their storage cousins, they roast beautifully -especially when tossed with olive oil and our garlic scapes.

We've also got zucchini, snap peas, tomatoes, and many other delightful treats for you this week!

Sincerely,

Jed, Emilia, and Ray
